As popular culture waves the banner of hedonism higher and higher, the odds of a rapper who speaks of monogamy, contentment, and faith making his mark in mainstream Hip Hop seem impossible. Yet, with several notable media appearances, chart-topping albums, along with a critically acclaimed mixtape and Grammy award to his credit, Lecrae has found himself on that narrow road while remaining true to his background and his worldview.

Raised by his mother on the south side of Houston, Lecrae Moore moved around quite often as a youth. San Diego, Denver and Dallas were once home to him and the street life he idolized and pursued. Here is Lecrae and his testimony:

By the end of 2011, Lecrae had become an emerging Hip Hop artist with a well-received appearance on the BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher, a feature on Statik Selektah‘s mixtape and collaborations with other mainstream artists and producers. The following year, he released the Church Clothes mixtape hosted by Don Cannon and featuring production by Boi-1da, 9th Wonder, S-1 and Street Symphony. The mixtape went double platinum on Datpiff garnering over 500,000 downloads and debuted at #10 on iTunes as an EP, as well as landing on Billboard.

In September of the same year, Gravity dropped and broke records with 70,490 units sold in its first week–making it the #1 Rap Album, #1 Independent Album, #3 on the Billboard 200, and earning Lecrae a Grammy award for Best Gospel Album.

Fresh off the Rock The Bells Tour–featuring Wu-Tang Clan, Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Juicy J Rakim, and Common–as well as sharing the stage with Meek Mill at the A3CFestival for the BET Music Matters Showcase, Lecrae is set to release his follow-up mixtape Church Clothes 2. CC2 is hosted by Don Cannon and executive produced by Street Symphony and features B.o.B., Paul Wall, Novel, Kevin Ross, Crystal Nicole, King Mez, label mates Derek Minor and Tedashii, as well as production from Grammy Award-winning producers Boi-1da, David Banner, ThaInnaCircle, Dirty Rice, Tyshane and more.

Since his mainstream entry into the rap game, Lecrae has been featured in Time, Entertainment Weekly, XXL, The Source, Vibe, and many others; yet, it is his passion for impacting urban culture, not achieving success, that continues to drive him.

A graduate of the University of North Texas, Lecrae now resides in Atlanta, GA with his wife and children. With a musically evolving and successful discography, co-ownership of a label and non-profit organization, Lecrae is humbled by his position in the growing movement to bring truth and hope to every arena.
